Message from the MWA Team
Assalamu Alaykum dear sisters and community,
We hope you are managing to do well in these difficult times. Our hearts and minds remain in Palestine, following with despair the news that comes in every day. We follow and we watch, unable to remove our eyes from unfolding horrors, hoping for an opening. But we do so comforted only by the fact that this is part of Allah’s (SWT) divine plan, and those whom He tests with such hardship, He also rewards.
May Allah ease our aching hearts, and give our brothers and sisters in blessed Gaza the fruits of their sacrifice, both in this life and the next.
The 76h Anniversary of the Nakba
Today is the 76th anniversary of the Nakba, the displacement and expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homeland during the establishment of Israel.
It is a day whose memory lives on in its survivors and their descendants every single day, and at no time more so than the present “war”.
Approximately 750,000 Palestinians were forced to flee or were expelled from their homes, leaving behind their properties, belongings, and ancestral lands. Many Palestinians were forced into refugee camps in neighbouring countries such as Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt, where they and their descendants remain to this day.
We reflect on this day with a special article, which we encourage you to read and share (see below!).
A Mother’s Day like no other
In any usual time, Mother’s Day is a day that lies at the heart of what the MWA is all about - a day to honour the immense sacrifices of Muslim women - and particularly mothers - everywhere.
But how could we possibly “celebrate” at a time when so many mothers have been lost. When so many no longer have children to be mothers to? When so many have lost their own mothers?
Few words can describe the hollowness we felt this Mother’s Day, a sentiment we’re sure that is shared by all mothers in our community.
We ask Allah (SWT) safeguard all mothers in our Ummah, particularly those undergoing the most immense of tests in Palestine.
Seeds of Resistance: The struggle continues!
As you know, we recently launched the “Seeds of Resistance” Preliminary Report which was based on surveys conducted to understand the abuse and harassment our community has faced since the events of last October.
This week, we continue sharing important extracts and snippets of the webinar that was held to launch the event on our social media.
Below, you’ll find the most recent of these. We urge you to continue to to access them, share them, and take this knowledge to the broader community, insha Allah.
